As always my thanks to our members who have volunteered to photograph events this month. Every event we cover is important, no matter whether it is for the city or a local organization. We take photos for these organizations because they give back to the community and support our club. Last Wednesday three of our members photographed the Woman's Club Philanthropic Awards as they presented over $50,000.00 including in grants and scholarships to Oviedo students and community organizations.
While at the ceremony I took a picture of four of the award winners; do you know who they are? They are, from left to right: Police Chief Jeffrey Chudnow, Fire Chief Lars White, Mayor Dominic Persampiere and Deputy Mayor Steve Henken. If you see them, or any other city employee, at an event introduce yourself, let them know you are a member of the club and don't forget to take their photo.
While we stay busy with community service, we also like to have fun and take photos for ourselves. You can do both later today at our annual picnic. I hope to see you all at Pavilion 3 in Lake Mills Park.

FUN, FOOD and PHOTOS, it is that time of year for our 3rd Annual Oviedo Photo Club picnic at Lake Mills Park, Pavilion 3.
This event has become a tradition for the Club. Bring your camera equipment, your lunch, chairs and games. We will provide bottled water. Bring a desert to share if you'd like.
Lake Mills Park is located off of 419. Go east on County Road 419. You will see the Hitching Post Bar & Grill on the left. Turn left (the only way) on Lake Mills Road. You will see a sign for the park and a left turn onto Tropical Avenue. The entrance to the park is on Tropical Avenue.
Please join us to explore this 50 acre Seminole County park. There is a boardwalk, a mixed hardwood swamp, a lake with a sandy beach and of course wildlife, including your fellow members, to photograph so bring your camera. We have a pavilion reserved and the club will provide bottled water.

Patty Brown is a long time member of the Oviedo Photo Club. She and her husband Steve retired a few years ago, bought a tiny camper and they have been traveling the county ever since. She will share her wonderful photos and Steve will share how life is on the road with an avid photographer.

Come join us to shoot Sunset from the top of the Orlando Eye, sunset will be at 8:22pm. Some of us might be interested in staying later and shooting the Moonrise at 9:20pm (Full moon was June 9).
We are all about Fun, Food and Photography, so if you would like to join us for dinner before we go up in the Eye. We will meet for at 5:30pm in front of the Eye and decide where to eat.
The Orlando Eye is a 400-foot tall observation wheel that provides breathtaking views of Central Florida in all directions from the fully enclosed air conditioned capsules. The Orlando Eye's website is https://www.officialorlandoeye.com
The ticket price is normally $25.00 but there is a $5.00 Florida resident discount if you purchase on-line in advance. Free parking is available in the multi-story car park located next to the attraction.
The tickets can be used at any time if purchased from this site. Each capsule holds a max of 15 adults.
The management will try to allow us to board as a group in the same capsule, but all must be on time and present for this. For this reason, please email the club your RSVP, so we know to look for you.

CITY OF ORLANDO
Deadline: July 14, 2017
The City of Orlando's Historic Preservation Board has announced their annual Calendar and Photo Competition. Participants will be competing for the chance to have their photo on the 2018 Calendar and a $100 honorarium.
The competition ends on July 14, 2017 at 5:00 pm.

CITY HALL GALLERY ENTRIES
THEME - OVIEDO ABSTRACTS

The theme for the next round of photos for the City Hall Gallery is Oviedo Abstracts and the deadline for submissions is July 19, 2017. You may submit up to five photos taken of any subject in Oviedo. They must have been taken since July 19, 2015. We will be choosing five new photos for City Hall. The five oldest photos in City Hall will be moved to the Annex building to replace five of the photos currently there.
The submissions will be handled via dropbox. Please email the club that you wish to participate and you will be provided a link to a dropbox folder for your photos. Do not create a dropbox folder yourself to submit photos. All files submitted should be suitable for printing a 16 x 20 print. You will only be able to see your photos, you will not be able to see the other submissions until after the submission deadline. All submitted photos will be renamed to be anonymous and submitted to our curator for the selection process. You will receive a confirmation email after the photos are renamed and submitted so you can verify they have all been provided to the curator. Once the selection process is completed all submissions will be placed into a nonpublic folder for everyone to see. If your photograph is chosen there will be a $50.00 charge for printing and framing your photograph. All photos will be printed by the club for a consistent appearance. |

JUNE PHOTO CHALLENGES
For June we have new challenges to inspire you to get out and take some photos. Our categories are Macro/Close-up, Mobile or General photos.
Our three subjects for any category are:
1. Money - real or play, coins and or bills; a still life or in use. 2. Red - red is a difficult color to photograph as it can have a tendency to look oversaturated even when your settings are correct. A rose, a sunset, a flashy red car whatever you choose.
3. Construction - there's always construction in central Florida, buildings and roads are aways being built or being torn down. But you might also go with some other types of construction - a bird's nest, a sand castle, a house of cards are all forms of construction.
As always the challenges aren't mandatory, but just meant to get you thinking about taking photos when you think there isn't anything to photograph. And we need to have something for those of us who love rules or love breaking them. This month's rule of composition is leading lines. You could use this "rule" for the subjects above or an entirely separate picture. Whatever you choose to photograph please share some of the results with us at one of our photo reviews.

In addition to selling photography equipment and hobby supplies, they also hold in-store photo classes, including Basic Digital SLR Class and How To Use Your Point & Shoot Camera. Classes are being held Fridays and Saturdays. Call them for more information and to register.
